equine bluebells

A classic Spring equine shoot, I was asked by this client to photograph her close friend, together with her horse (Mouse!) and they had the perfect location. Nice and close to their stables in rural Kent, this woodland provided the perfect backdrop to photograph Mouse – a stunning grey. Both he and his owner, Karla, are very photogenic and this made my job a whole lot easier. The fact that Karla (and not me!) had the task of getting Mouse nice and shiny clean was a blessing.

We had a great time finding some locations in the woodland that would allow for some depth (shooting through branches and along pathways) as well as some classic poses. We even managed a small number of ridden shots. Mouse was (mostly) very well behaved and we wrapped up the image set in just over an hour, making the most of the late afternoon light that’s such a pleasure to use at this time of year.

I did shoot quite a number of colour saturated images to make the most of the lovely purple/blue carpet but this selection shows how desaturated and mono can also make the most of that light through the trees.
